More Pink! Shiseido Perfect Rouge

One of the first things make-up artist Dick Page did when he became Shiseido’s Artistic Director a few years ago was to revamp its lipstick line. So out went the Perfecting Lipsticks, and in came Perfect Rouge.

If you ask me, the lipsticks aren’t getting the credit they deserve. Somehow they disappear under their seemingly more glamorous counterparts like Chanel’s Rouge Allure, YSL’s Rouge Volupte, Guerlain’s Rouge G and Dior’s Serum de Rouge.

Which is a shame, because they are pretty amazing. The colour payoff is amazing. The texture is amazing … well, you get my drift. I loved that there’s no shimmer. It glides on really well, and is so creamy that it ends up looking a little glossy on the lips – but be prepared for some bleeding if you go for the darker shades. As for staying power, the colour I had on faded well (because it is so pigmented) and stayed true even after two cups of coffee, a pizza and a molten chocolate cake!

The colours available pretty much cover everything under the sun – and the perfect red in the line-up even shares the same name as my ultimate (Chanel) red, Dragon!

But –I’m not talking about Dragon today. Instead, it’s something a little more playful called PK417, or Bubblegum. Couldn’t have been better named too …

Red of The Day: Lola Lip Cream in Smitten

Love … the sheer, moisturising formula that is creamy, yet lightweight, the buildable colour – and what a colour! This gorgeous cherry red has the perfect combination of pink and orange pigments, and it isn’t a siren red, which makes it perfect to wear during the day if you’re a little shy … I even love the in-built flip mirror packaging (yes, which you will end up comparing with Guerlain’s Rouge G).

Wear it with … a rosy flush!

Tools:

  • Eyes: Majolica Majorca Perfect Automatic Liner in BL603, Diorshow Iconic mascara.
  • Cheeks: Laura Mercier Second Skin Cheek Colour in Rose Bloom.

New Beginnings … La Ligne de Chanel

Happy new year, girls!

I hope 2009 was wonderful to all of you, and that 2010 will bring more good things!

Just don’t ask me about resolutions – never been any good at them. I do have a small one that I plan to hang on to, and that’s to not ignore my eye shadow colours too much (the way I’ve been doing for the last couple of months!).

And to make good on my promise, I skipped my usual red in favour of lightly smoked eyes on New Year’s eve.

The colour was courtesy of Chanel’s Professional Duo Eyeliner, La Ligne de Chanel in Celadon-Lamé.

P1010451

Part of Chanel’s gorgeous Christmas 2009 Collection, Cage Dorèe, this palette features Celadon, a dark, matte monochromatic green, and Lamé, a satiny green. And no, your eyes are not deceiving you. I tried, but just couldn’t bring out the greens, and I can tell you that it isn’t obvious in real life, either.

If you’re not too familiar with Chanel, this is the brand’s star powder eyeliner. It comes with two applicators – a thin brush and a sponge. The idea is to use the brush damp to grab the darker, matt colour, then the sponge to blend in the sparkly shade.

Now I’ve always felt that Chanel colours aren’t as heavily pigmented as some other brands like Dior or even Bobbi Brown, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Take this palette, for instance – what a great way to start wearing smoky eyes!

What I’ve done is applied Celadon wet on around the eyes, kinda like a kohl – notice how it isn’t too obvious on the lower lid? – then Lamé over the upper eyelids. The sparkle is amazing, yet wearable.

What I loved about the product is that the colours are so user-friendly – it’s an easy, breezy way if you want to go a little heavy on the eyes, yet don’t want full-on rocker chick. And because the colour is totally buildable, you can be sure that Chanel’s chic little palette will go the distance as you improve your skills!
