La Prairie’s Life Threads: Are you Silver, Gold or Platinum?
Swiss brand La Prairie is synonymous with luxury – it all began with their skin caviar creams, which women around the world lusted after. Then it was the Pure Gold serum (the Cellular Radiance Concentrate), which started a craze for all things gold. Not content with that, La Prairie went platinum. The Platinum Cream is currently – correct me if I’m wrong – the world’s most expensive face cream.
So when the brand decided to expand their perfume range, somehow calling them Silver, Gold and Platinum seemed a natural progression.
The perfumes are all called Life Threads, with each scent meant to represent the different facets of a woman’s life. And let me tell you, there’s nothing metallic about the way they smell.
Silver is a woody floral, and starts green – thanks to green leaves and golden bergamot. Its heart is a combination of tuberose, Indian jasmine, orange blossom and ylang ylang, and it ends with sandalwood, vetiver, musk and peppery moss.
Gold is a spicy oriental, with tangerine, Chinese plum and clove as its top notes. The middle notes include exotic pepper, Kyoto rose, cinnamon bark, coriander, lily of the valley and ylang ylang, and it dries down to the more seductive notes of cedarwood, patchouli, golden myrrh, vanilla and imperial incense.
Platinum is meant to be a chypre floral, and is a unique combination of floral, woody and leathery notes. The scent opens with sweet notes from juicy plum, galbanum and violet leaf, before letting out exotic notes of jasmine petals, Persian rose, leather, Kerala cardamom and iris. The trail it leaves, though, is totally seductive - Indonesian patchouli, vetiver, golden amber, oakmoss and labdanum.
All three were created by perfumer Constance Georges-Picot.
“With Life Threads, we aimed to create a provocative portfolio of fragrances that spoke to the different dimensions of a woman – scents that celebrated milestones and evoked memories. Whether you find yourself drawn to Silver, Gold or Platinum, the fragrance is sure to stir the senses and empower you to face the next chapter of your life with confidence and passion,” said Lynne Florio, President of La Prairie.
That the scents are all polished and sophisticated, I have no doubt. Even the flacons are equally elegant – lucite bottles wrapped in delicate threads of silver, gold and platinum. I am intrigued by Platinum, though I feel that my heart will fall for Gold.
This is a big deal for La Prairie, and in conjunction with the launch, the brand is celebrating the lives of the Silver, Gold and Platinum women in the form of nine short films – films that, according to the press release, addresses the topics of love, passion, career, family and choices women face on a daily basis.
I think it’s a beautiful idea, so do visit www.lifethreads.com and www.laprairie.com to have a look.
Life Threads Silver, Gold and Platinum EDP costs RM500 (50ml) and is available at La Prairie counters in Parkson Pavilion KL, Isetan Suria KLCC, Isetan The Gardens.

I was at one of their counters last week, and these bottles caught my eyes. Tried all 3 of them, and I like the Gold scent, Oriental, floral….my kind of scent.
The other 2 was a bit too strong for me.
But of course, La Prairie comes with their hefty price tag and I am not quite into perfume. A good thing.
Hi VonVon, I must give these perfumes a sniff – but RM500 a bottle will make one think twice, no matter how beautiful the scent! Such is the price of beauty, huh?
