Body Beautiful: La Mer
We’ve all heard of the numerous, decadent ways we can pamper our bodies – from Cleopatra’s milk bath to caviar and gold leaf facials. But the thing about these treatments, is that you’ll need to check yourself in a luxury spa to experience them.
La Mer’s The Body Refiner and The Body Creme changes that.
My ultimate body treat might be Origins Modern Friction for the Body – but this truly is one serious contender.
The Body Refiner is, put simply, a body scrub. Now how decadent can a scrub be? Sure, there’s the fermented acidic sea mud to detoxify the skin, but it’s what you’re scrubbing your skin with that makes this such a splurge. Think diamond dust. Lots and lots of diamond dust – all 1.5 carats of diamond dust!
Mixed together with tourmaline and sea quartz, these minerals don’t just act as physical exfoliants, but get electronically-charged up when massaged into the skin, to stimulate circulation and “awaken the skin”. It’s also rich with hyaluronic acid, a humectant with the ability to capture water a thousand times its weight – just so that your “new, polished skin” is well moisturised.
Fabulous marketing hype aside, this truly is the most luxurious scrub I have ever used.
The scrub itself is creamy, not grainy, and has that familiar, pleasant scent I’ve come to associate La Mer with. Its low pH level also makes it ideal for sensitive skin. You’re meant to use it on damp skin, and let me tell you, I had a hard time deciding how much of it to use!
In the end, mixing it with a bit of water ensured more usage. If you don’t use enough, there’s none of that “clean skin” feel. Use it properly, and you’ll find a softness on your skin you’d normally only get by slathering on tonnes of body butter.
Speaking of body creams, the experience isn’t complete without La Mer’s The Body Creme. I’ll only use one word to describe it – sumptuous.
La Mer calls it a seaweed wrap in a jar, thanks to the hydrating benefits of an exclusive Micro-Algae Complex, the Blue Algae Lift Ferment and the brand’s nutrient-rich sea kelp. It’s supposed to moisturise so well, you only need to use it a couple of times a week. But use it, and you’re looking at healthier skin that’s more toned and supple.
It has texture like thick whip cream, and the same divine, fresh scent as The Hand Treatment. The thing about The Body Creme, is that it goes on really light on the skin, but the “rich” feeling stays on, which is why I save this for night applications.
And when I wake up, scaly bits are all gone – my skin is well moisturised and lightly scented. I especially love how soft my feet feel – who needs a foot cream when you can give your feet extra TLC with La Mer?
But here’s the thing, I can’t help but feel that those with seriously dry skin would need something a bit more heavy-duty, I don’t know – if you’ve got super-dry skin and swear by this, let me know!
Back to The Body Refiner – it’s my favourite between both products – and I left the best part for last:
All that diamond dust you use to polish your skin with? Stays on your skin even after rinse-off. I leave a trail of sparkly diamond-powder everywhere, even on my bedsheets! Trust me, you glow!
