Red, Red, Red!

 lips

I was doing my daily read-ups, and saw that Handbag.com had done a gallery of celebrities with red lips. Have a look at it here. I’ve also compiled a short list on great stories on red lips for your reading pleasure. Enjoy!

  1. A fabulous article on the power of red by Alexandra Marshall on the The New York Times.
  2. Make-up masterclass on red lips by M.A.C senior artist Lynsey Alexander on The Times.
  3. A homemade tutorial on how to wear red lips on YouTube.
  4. Allure magazine’s 3 Best Lipsticks of All Time.
  5. Make-up maven Pat McGrath and the ultimate red lipstick from Dolce & Gabbana’s new make-up line on W magazine.

Scents of Summer

459925_38381585[1]

“Wear perfume wherever you want to be kissed.”

The great Coco Chanel spoke these immortal words when she launched Chanel N°5.

I love that – which is why I spray on perfume on my inner wrist and the back of my neck, right below my ear. Just about six inches from the skin does the job fine. Another good tip passed on to me by make-up artist and life coach Arnaud Marolleau is to spray on as a “V” on the body – that’s how French women do it. And I don’t get too worried if I can’t smell anything either, the whole idea is for someone to be close enough to catch a whiff. So when wearing perfume …

  1. Choose different ones to suit your many moods. Or be adventurous and wear something unexpected, like a happy, floral scent on rainy days.
  2. Wear your perfume at the right place and time. Skip it when you’re working out, doing yoga, and if you’re going to be in confined spaces.
  3. Don’t over-apply to make the scent strong the entire day. Subtlety is key. Nobody more than three feet away from you should be able to smell it.
  4. Never use it to mask body odour. A perfume is a fragrance accent. You have BO? Use a deodorant.

As for the perfumes to pick right now? Explore the fragrance counters, or go for any one of these three  summer editions. The beauty of these scents is that they were created to go well with hot weather. And it’s always summer here anyway.

Armani Code Summer Eau Fraîche (75ml EDT, RM220)

Code_Summer_Femme

The seductive scent is given a fresh take with bright notes like sparkling ginger, frosted pear sorbet and bigarade orange on top of the heavier original notes of orange blossom, white wood and vanilla. The fragrance wears a lighter outfit for summer too, with a frosted finish and white floral embroidery.

Stella McCartney Sheer Stella 2009 (100ml EDT, RM95)

SHEER 18X24 300 DPI

The amber and rose notes are still there, but the Sheer Stella is given a bit of sparkle with green apple and frosted lemon. I think if you’ve always wished for the original Stella to be a bit more playful, your wish has been granted. And isn’t the bottle just beautiful?

Ralph Lauren Romance Eau Fraîche (100ml EDP, RM269)

RLR Smmr Ed 08 Btl&Crtn

Think of this as the younger sister of brand’s best-selling perfume. It’s sheerer than the heavier, velvety big sister, with new additions like guava and waterlily.

Baby Love from Kiehl’s

BabyGroupShot2004

During my pregnancy I was priviliged enough to have my baby shower thrown by the wonderful people at Kiehl’s. It was a fabulous event filled with dear friends, and the most mouth-watering desserts you can imagine.

As if that wasn’t enough, I was also presented with a set of Kiehl’s baby products. The range includes the Diaper Rash Ointment, Gentle Cleasing Milk, Nurturing Baby Cream, Gentle Foaming Hair and Body Wash, and the Baby Lip Balm.

Now if you have children of your own, get them all.

My daughter Elika is now almost four months old, and she has absolutely no problems with her skin - there’s no diaper rash, her skin looks and feels great, and I think the Gentle Cleansing Milk actually helps with her hair growth!

The products contain gentle ingredients like apricot kernel oil, sweet almond oil, purified honey to help care for baby’s skin. They smell lovely too, as they contain a fragrance blend of vanilla, apples and berries.

They’re all pediatrician-tested, and prices start from RM35 for the Lip Balm, and go up to RM80 for the Diaper Rash Ointment.

One & Only Red

6a00d8341cb58653ef01156fc1c9e1970c-800wi[1]

When it comes to nail colours, I have a few favourites – among them Chanel’s grungy Black Satin, the sexiest nude on the planet, OPI’s Tickle My France-y, and Essie’s ultra-funky Coral Reef. Somehow, I’ve never really liked wearing red on my nails, which is funny, considering how much I love the colour.

But this might be the red that could change all that.

Called the One&Only Red, it was created by celebrity podiatrist cum pedicurist Bastien Gonzalez, with the help of Butter London – and it is gorgeous. This red would be perfect worn with peep-toe Louboutins – to go with those signature red soles!

This colour is so exclusive, it can only be purchased at One&Only resorts and www.bastiengonzalez.com. Like the best nail lacquers, it contains no formaldehyde, toluene or dibutyl phthalate.

A bottle will set you back 20.50 euros, but think about the bragging rights you’ll be entitled to …

So if anyone out there is headed to a One&Only resort - shoot me an email because I would LOVE to get my hands on a bottle!

It’s All in The Genes – Part 1

GENIFIQUE copy

As I’m sitting in bed and typing this out, I can’t stop touching my face. I’ve just finished my nightly regime of Shu Uemura Depsea water, Dr Sebagh Serum, Dior Capture Totale eye cream and Creme de la Mer – with one new addition – the Lancôme Génefique Youth Activating Concentrate.

Génefique is one of the French brand’s biggest skincare launch this year, and the science behind the product is straight out of Star Trek. Lancôme took ten painstaking years to complete research, studying 4,400 genes that are relevant to skin. The result is skincare that claims to power up the skin’s youth protein, which slows down its activity level as we age.

Génefique is meant to go on before your regular serum to work its magic, but it’s much too early to see any changes in my skin as it is only my first night. And if the idea of having to apply yet another product is putting you off – trust me, this takes seconds. The texture is amazing. All I need is a couple of drops to cover my entire face and neck area. It sinks in beautifully, and leaves a slight powdery silky residue that I love.

Which is why I can’t seem to stop caressing my cheeks …

The Lancôme Génefique Youth Activating Concentrate will be available at Lancôme counters nationwide. Will keep you guys updated on my skin after Génefique!
